Wasilla, AK WW/Press/November 22, 2019 – Joyce Lund, Principal and Teacher with Our Lady of The Valley Catholic School was selected for inclusion into the Top Educators of America 2019-2020 by The Who’s Who Directories.
Joyce Lund is the Principal and teaches Second Grade at Our Lady of The Valley Catholic School. Mrs. Lund is now in her fifth decade of teaching. She began her career in elementary education in the mission territories of Colorado. With a career in teaching, she found a special joy in the freedom to incorporate her faith into her classroom. Mrs. Lund who retired from teaching in 2011, stepped into the position as principal, guiding the school full time. When the school was going through difficult times financially, she was there to help OLV by teaching music lessons. She also heads the finances, parent communications and activities. The students, staff and parents love and respect her.
Mrs. Lund is an accomplished theatrical director, musician and chorister who enjoys singing, she is a lector at Sacred Heart, where she attends Mass and she helps out with music at her husbands congregation, Trinity Lutheran. Mrs. Lund has traveled extensively and is ever ready with the broad vision as well as specific details to make projects come together. Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy was a natural fit for her lifelong passion — allowing OLV to shine in many arenas as the students brought the Good News of Jesus to the quiet, often-forgotten margins of Anchorage and its neighboring communities.
Mrs. Lund graduated from Adam State College in Colorado in 1973, with a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish, spending time in Mexico to bolster her Spanish degree.
Mrs. Lund was a teacher in the Mat-Su School District, where she received the BP Teacher of the Year award in 2005.
Mrs. Lund and her husband Karl, a retired educator, reside in Wasilla where they both devote much of their time, talent and treasure to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School and their community.
