Erica Minchew is a 2nd Grade Teacher at Kingsfield Elementary School. She has been in the field of education for 9 years. Prior to teaching at Kingsfield, she was a student teacher at Foley Elementary (2nd and 4th grades). She also teaches Sunday School at her church. As an educator, with a degree in Elementary as well as Special Education, Mrs. Minchew’s desire is to reach students’ minds as well as their hearts. She enjoys creating, teaching and assessing students with fun, energetic, yet rigorous methods. Mrs. Minchew is known to go above and beyond for her students. As one student is quoted as saying, “She makes sure every lesson she plans is engaging and hands on for the students. She spends extra hours planning for her students. She has room transformations frequently and plan STEM projects. She has many multi sensory strategies to make sure she is reaching each and every student. She cares deeply for her students and they love and respect her.”
Mrs. Minchew received a B.A. in Elementary Education K-6 and Special Education K-12 from the University of South Alabama. She is a member of the Writing Committee, Stem Committee, Talents Unlimited, Alabama Reading Initiative, PBS Team and Behavior Team – Kingsfield Elementary.
Mrs. Minchew was asked to present at “Raise the Bar” (a district-wide conference) on engagement strategies for teachers to take back to their classroom. Ms. Minchew is a Thinking Maps trainer, she uses this teaching method often and can train teachers on Thinking Maps. She was also selected to go through training at The University of West Florida to receive student teachers.
Mrs. Minchew was honored and recognized as “Teacher of the Year” in 2018 and 2019. She is married to Drew Minchew, they have two daughters ages four and two.
