Mrs. Burton teaches English and Social Studies at Cahokia High School. This is her 14th year at the High School and 18th year in the field of education. Mrs. Burton is known as a wonderful teacher who shows compassion for her students, enjoys collaboration with her fellow educators and truly enjoys her job. When asked what helps teachers be successful in their classrooms she said, “Teachers need each other. Teaching can become so isolating and that can become dangerous (especially for teachers just starting out). I have had the pleasure of working with phenomenal teachers that recognize each other’s strength as an opportunity to make their own classroom lessons and management better. There is nothing more rewarding then collaborating with fellow teachers about an activity or lesson and to watch students become excited about learning.”
Mrs. Burton earned her B.A. in Social Studies with a minor in English from Southern Illinois University. She also has a Master’s in Education Administration and has her LBS1 certificate in Special Education. Mrs. Burton is also active in the Illinois Teacher’s union.
